WW1 Commemorations

You may be aware that various groups and individuals in the village have been meeting to discuss how we might commemorate this centenary. Many suggestions have been put forward for events to mark this very special anniversary. Battlefield tours are being considered along with displays and exhibitions. Research is also underway into the many village residents who not only made the ultimate sacrifice but also those who played a part in the war over its 4 year span. We have a WW1 leaflet with more information, which will be distributed around the village with the Addingham Churches Together (ACT) Easter ‘Sign Post’ booklet. A big thank-you to ACT. We are working ‘hand-in-hand’ with the Parish Council on this project. If you want to learn more about what is planned or would like to help, then once again speak to a member of the committee or send us an email.

Blue Plaque Scheme

This project is now officially ‘up and running’ as we have just taken delivery of the first plaque, which is for Mount Hermon Chapel. Neil Bedford and the ‘team’ at the Chapel are delighted with it and Neil is now busy planning a special ceremony. The cost of the plaque has been jointly funded by Mount Hermon, the Parish Council and ourselves and we are delighted that the Parish Council are planning their own Plaque for the Old School House. The Society’s ‘Blue Plaque Group’ will now look at other potential recipients for a plaque. If you have any suggestions then contact any member of the Executive Committee or drop us an email at info@addinghamcivicsociety.co.uk
